Ideas become answers. Orange HOWELL began with drawings inspired by Robert Bentley's gemstones converging into photoshop designs. I aimed towards relevant (?) American craftsmanship, built protypes, toured factories, ghost designed projects, navigated real life, replaced my swiss army knife with my trusty iphone, embraced social media, researched the marketplace and found the new economy to be faster than right now, hence e-commerce! Orange HOWELL? Made in the U.S.A.

The given name of my mother's great-great grandfather, a spirited Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Welsh, Quaker, Hoosier, Farmer. An obscure, colorful name, easy to tradema?k, classic cool (snowflakes) and double citrus funny... Orange's middle name was Lemon. Orange HOWELL? twists with a sense of irony O.H.Macaroni....encapsulates 1970's experiences of Arts n' Crafts projects created while watching the American sitcom, Gilligan's Island...'cause Ginger definitely had an Orange Crush on Thurston Howell.

Since 2002, Orbix Hot Glass has distinguished itself by its refined handmade glassware and its connections with those who appreciate clean designs, dependable service, and excellent quality in a small studio and gallery business.
For owners Cal and Christy Breed, Orbix emerged as an idea in the late 1990's, though it bore no name. For many years leading up to this point, Cal studied at schools around the country, gleaning as much knowledge and technique from some of the best in the world.Deciding where to plant a glass studio was not a difficult decision; Alabama was home, with all its charm and subtle graces.
As plans were lain, equipment was built, and property was sought, the reality became evident that it would take a lot of great people to make it a success. Though the task of opening and running an art business was and remains trying at times, the encounters with so many others provides joy and fascination.
Today, Orbix resides on 26 acres bordering Little River Canyon National Preserve, just a few miles from where Cal and Christy met and spent many days scaling the steep cliffs, or paddling the turbulent waters. Evidence of this landscape whispers through the Orbix collection, as it always remains a backdrop of the studio.
From one perspective, Orbix is about our personal paths along the way and its intersection with many others on their personal orbits. From another perspective its about the process of blowing glass and its constant requirement to never stop turning - always pushing forward. Those two things give meaning to Orbix and reflect two of our greatest passions - people and glass.
Today, we strive to make honest, excellent work that someone would invite into their life. Cal leads a team of glassblowers who hand-craft each piece with great attention to form, balance and color.
We hope that you would come to expect the same excellence in our service - impeccable, timely and personal. We are making one-at-a-time glassware for individuals who want one-at-a-time attention.

Pinwilz Framing Owner, Bev Heldman comes from a long family tradition of wood working. Her Paw Paw was a wood worker and bee keeper in Old Fort since the early 1900's. Bev's fondest memories of her childhood are from the hours spent in the shop seeing projects come to life and smelling the fresh cut wood. Bev will tell you, that wood working is in her soul and it is a passion that cannot be trained.
A successful mixed media craftsman herself, Bev for many years owned and operated McDowell Counties most successful privately owned art and hand craft gallery, TAAS Gallery until the great recession pummeled the business. Only faith, strong belief and relentless positive thinking have allowed Bev to push her business into it's newest era. Pinwilz Framing is actually a throw-back to it original roots. In 1989 Pinwilz Framing opened up shop in Oliver Springs, TN. Now many years later, the specialty framing name reemerges. Over the past 20 plus years, Bev has been concentrating on many mediums for art and crafts. Her vast knowledge of wood, presentation and attention to detail assures that your project with Pinwilz will be done to your satisfaction. Bev also does commissions and has a thriving little consignment gallery of other local hand crafter's from the area. Many of the artisans are very loyal to the Heldman's and have been with them since first opening TAAS Gallery in 2008.
Sons C & C Heldman have both shown interest in the family business and who knows, one day, maybe they will take it to the next level.
