Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, Emerson Creek Pottery artisans are continuing the American tradition of handmade pottery in a contemporary way. The property on which Emerson Creek Pottery sits was originally a 500-acre land grant from the King of England. In 1825, Silas Wade aquired the land and built his two room, and two story log cabin, now the home of Emerson Creek Pottery. To the north are the majestic Peaks of Otter, visible through the treetops in winter. The land rolls gently away from the house to the creek beds. More information about this historic home can be found in the Virginia Room of the Roanoke City Library, Roanoke, Virginia.
Emerson Creek Log Cabin Influenced by the energy of Early American cobalt decoration, owners Priscilla Palmer and Jim Leavitt founded Emerson Creek Pottery in 1977. Priscilla developed the unique technique of applying natural pigments to an absorbent glaze with a Japanese Sumi-e brush. The spontaneity of the brush stroke, combined with the accuracy of design yields our distinctively recognizable style. Priscilla's deep love of the natural world provides a multitude of organic designs for all of Emerson Creek's pottery.

Our handmade ceramics have been featured at Monticello, Mt. Vernon and the Smithsonian Institute, as well as in fine homes across America. We have had the pleasure of designing customized handcrafted pottery patterns for numerous clubs and organizations.

Emerson Creek Our handcrafted ceramics are formed of clay made onsite. Each piece is hand made, hand painted and fired in a gas kiln. Each pattern is a series of carefully planned strokes. No templates or stencils are used. The patterns are practiced and committed to memory. The artists paint the pattern again and again. Each piece is alike and yet different, like flowers in a field. We are currently featuring 13 different lines of ceramic pottery, including our beloved signature line - Field of Iris, a classic since 1977. All of our work is microwave and dishwasher safe, lead free and ovenproof.

My wife was struggling with a large pot of water for pasta dinner when she asked, Why can't pasta be cooked in the microwave? We tried the infamous plastic cylinders you fill with pasta and boiling water. Doesn't work, never did.
As an inventor, I began analyzing the pasta cooking process. I calculated 20 minutes to boil water, 10 minutes for stirring and sampling which is a 30 minute start to finish process. Pour the pot of hot water into a colander and the cooking process is complete. I decided my invention must:
1. Cook all pasta varieties to perfect al dente perfection, every time.
2. No boil over or noodles sticking together.

3. Cook pasta in half the stove-top time, so 15 minutes or less from start to finish.

4. Made of BPA free FDA approved microwave safe material.

5. No large pots, colanders, or utensils to manually wash.

6. Dishwasher safe.

7. Must be made in the USA.

In 18 months we developed the original Microwave Cooker called Fasta Pasta?. I started production while my wife began experimenting, learning it cooks more than just perfect al dente pasta. Fasta Pasta? cooks rice, vegetables, soups, casseroles and even a great chocolate cake!

Fasta Pasta? is a perfect gift for students, the elderly, disabled, the RV crowd, couples, single moms, and working families on the go.
Fasta Pasta? saves time, energy and water while producing a deliciously hot meal every time.

Tell your friends about Fasta Pasta?.

Thank you for purchasing our American Made Product.

From Salvaged Tree to Functional Wood Spoons

I got started making spoons because my husband needed a large cooking paddle to make his famous Chicken Pilau. (A local favorite in Central Florida). Since I used the wood shop for my much needed therapy time, I couldn't wait to make one. I had so much fun making it that I started replacing all the spoons in my kitchen and then all my family and friends' spoons! Then I had so many I had to start selling them so I could buy more wood.

I started doing craft shows and have enjoyed meeting new people and returning customers. I get lots of ideas by visiting with people and making special items for them.

In 2010 I quit my job and today I spend every day in my therapy shop. Every morning I check on Etsy and answer any convos and respond to orders. Then I walk to work across our cow pasture to my Mom and Dad's and visit with them before heading out to the wood shop. I have every woodworking tool I could ever dream of! I'm home in the afternoon where I do all of my hand sanding and finish work. I also check Etsy again. Then I do my packing and shipping. Everything I do there is in a 2 car garage changed to a spoon shop. And I share a small corner with my husband who sometimes works from home.

During craft show season I work 7 days a week, but I wouldn't change my life right now for anything! Thanks for reading my story and I hope you will come visit me at a craft show soon! I keep them posted on my web site at www.fortremington.com

eshop at Frye International's web store for Made in America products
One of the products Frye International sells is Made in America Food Storage Containers. A more complete list of their products is provided by Made in America Secrets, to review their list click here.

For more information about Frye International and its American Made products see the following:

FRYE INTERNATIONAL was founded in 1980 by a chemist and a physicist. The company initially produced quality plastic parts for other firms such as Compaq Computer, Fisher-Price, etc. In 1991 the company acquired a line of airtight food storage containers and produced them under a Farberware license for 16 years from 1993 to 2008. The company no longer produces parts for other companies and now focuses exclusively on its FRESH KEEPER? and MONTERREY? product lines.

Many owners of FRESH KEEPER? and MONTERREY? products have noticed similarities between our seal quality and that of TUPPERWARE. This is because the product line was born at the same time that the patent expired on the TUPPERWARE famous airtight, burpable seal. The expiration of the patent permitted to duplicate the industry's best seal design and offer it at a fraction of the cost. This is one reason why FRESH KEEPER? and MONTERREY? products are today's best value in food storage.
