Over two decades ago in a welding shop in North Carolina, Brad Holland changed grilling forever. As with all grills, Brad struggled with the problem of flare-up and how to keep food from catching fire. After twelve years of hard work and extensive testing Brad solved the problem. Grilling enthusiasts and professional caterers have been enjoying the Holland System in backyards, on patios, in campgrounds and tailgate parties since 1988. The Holland System is a patented, ingenious system of heat control guards and a drip pan that prevent flare-ups. Simply close the lid and cook by time. Back before wireless radio and telegraph, ships at sea needed a way to communicate from a distance. With their probable beginnings in the 18th century, code flags have evolved into the patterns accepted today. Our flags use the same patterns as those of the US Navy.

International signal flags continue to be useful today. Ships moving in and out of port fly their radio call sign so that they can be quickly identified by harbor masters. Additionally, with modern electronic surveillance tools, naval battle groups use signal flags to maintain radio silence.

sailboat with nautical signal flagsThere are 26 naval signal flags corresponding to the letters of the English alphabet. Then there are 10 numeric pennants, from 0-9. Additionally, certain repeater flags are used to pass information about the message itself. For example, a code that indicates a previous flag is repeated. Finally, there are a few special code flags, such as Diver Down, meaning there's an underwater diver in the vicinity (so drive carefully).

Probably because of their colorful designs, a fully dressed ship flies all the flags for special occasions. In fact, the Navy Department specifies the order in which the flags are hung (hoisted).

How We Make our Flags

Most signal flag kits you'll find contain only one of each flag, including the code flags. They come in standard sizes, with Size 0 usually being around 9 x 15. You'll also find inexpensive items where the entire alphabet is a single, non-separable (very long) plastic banner.

We sell separate, individual flags, and you can buy more than one of each letter or number pennant.

Our flags are square, 8 x 8, and are designed to hang indoors from a rope, the rung of a ladder, or a typical curtain rod (3/4 or less). Rope, curtain rods or ladder rungs pass through a cloth casing, not the typical grommets used in other flags. This makes it easier to hang them without additional knots, buckles, clips, or loops and toggles. (Click here to see our flag alphabet.)

By making our signal flags smaller, they don't take up as much room. A one-word horizontal banner might be only 4 feet long, but it just as easily could be 15-20 feet long (or longer). It all depends on what it says and how many letters or words: It's your option.

We hand craft each flag at the time of your order, using high-quality cotton and broadcloth. Many companies offer only screened patterns printed directly on lightweight synthetics. That's helpful when using the flags at sea, where waterproofing is important. Our flags, although they can be washed (in cold water), aren't designed for salt-water or ocean duty. They're designed as nautical decorations with the pattern on only one side and a white lining on the back.

Our flags are 1-sided, with a white cotton back lining. They're not nylon and are designed only to be hung indoors: not from a halyard.

Decorated ships in New York City harbor
signal flag stitched liningAll our flags have a white cotton back lining (e.g., the letters b and z to the left). The backing makes the colors nice and bright, but it also means the pattern can only be seen from one side ? the front. As we've said, our banners aren't designed to be hoisted up a mast on a sailboat.

Message Orientation

You can choose two different orientations in the banners ? the direction they're read. In all situations, each flag's casing is at the top, not at the left, as seen in most Web representations. The flags are the same pattern, just rotated 90-degrees. However, you can get a banner that reads from left to right (horizontal), or from top to bottom (vertical ladder).

Horizontal banners (rope or valance) allow for more flags, as they're usually hung across a wall or window, between trees, on a porch or other places where there's lots of room. Vertical (ladder) banners hang from a picture hook on a wall, or you can use an over-the-door hanger for your front door or a bedroom door. The ladders are about 1 foot per flag, so keep that in mind in terms of height limits you may have. Order as many flags as you'd like. For vertical ladders, 3 ? 6 flags look great when hung from a typical door or wall.

Our garden carts use the highest quality materials that are designed to withstand harsh environmental elements and abuse. Read on further to see specifically what we do that others don't. Buy a cart that is designed for a lifetime of use.
Threaded Axles with a Lock Nut
Our axles are made of high carbon steel with threads on them. We provide a lock nut to make sure the wheels on your cart stay there. Other manufacturers use cotter pins which eventually rust through causing bearing damage or the loss of a wheel.

High Grade Polyethylene Tub
Want a cart that will last a lifetime? Buy one that is made from materials that are made to last that lifetime. The fact is that wood rots, steel rusts, and fiberglass cracks. We carefully selected all the materials in our cart. We use polyethylene because it does not rust or rot and it has enough flexibility to prevent cracking when someone drops hard objects on it. The plastic tub of the Carry-It cart has ribbed sides and bottom for extra strength. The raised lip on the top and end of the tub is designed to carry large planter flats so they will not slide off your cart.

Lightweight and Well Balanced
You selected a cart over a wheelbarrow is because you are smart. You know that a cart is designed to distribute the load to the cart not to your arms. Don't defeat this advantage by purchasing a heavy cart. Our cart weighs 42lbs, it is lightweight when compared to wooden, steel, or fiberglass carts. The axle is well positioned so that you are pushing the cart not carrying the load.

Zinc Coated Hardware and Frame for Rust Prevention
The axle and hardware are zinc plated for protection from rust. The frame on the Carry-It garden cart is made from steel. This is not ordinary steel that has been galvanized, we use Allied brand Zinc Flo-coat tubing. This tubing is coated with zinc at the factory as the tubing is being roll-formed. The tubing is then given a clear coat on top of the zinc for added corrosion resistance and finish.
Holds Liquids
You'll find more uses for your dock cart when you realize that it can hold up to 50 gallons of liquid with it.

KettlePizza founder, Al Contarino is an inventor who had a passion for grilling. His main frustration was that whenever grill lids were opened or removed, all the stored heat would be lost stalling the cooking process. In 2005, he started developing a new type of gas grill that maintained the heat when the lid was opened. Countless hours and a substantial amount of money went into the patented design with the hopes of licensing to a major grill manufacturer. Five years later, Al was completely frustrated with the challenges of licensing his ideas and he decided to focus his efforts on developing a product that he could design, manufacture and market completely on his own. This new product was KettlePizza.

Al Contarino, Inventor of the KettlePizza, with one of the first prototypes

In May of 2010 Al built his first prototype of the KettlePizza. He called his friend and fellow inventor, George Peters, to check out the design of a crude pizza oven insert made to fit on top of common charcoal kettle grills. The prototype seemed to solve the problem of maintaining high temperatures throughout the cooking process and so they decided to invite some friends over for a pizza party. Everyone loved the pizza and the concept. That was all that Al and George needed to hear, they knew they had a winner.

In the upcoming months, Al and George took on the challenge to design, manufacture and sell the KettlePizza right out of Al's barn in Massachusetts. They made the challenge even harder by pledging to source as many of the KettlePizza components as possible from American suppliers. The goal was not just to build a product and a company, but to create US jobs. Their first employee was Lynne Graziosi who continues to be an invaluable member of the KettlePizza team.

We feel that our story portrays one of true American ingenuity and success.

One of the products Lazyman sells is Made in America Cooking Burners. A more complete list of their products is provided by Made in America Secrets, to review their list click here.

In 1932, Louis McGlaughlin launched what would become the gas barbecue industry by starting the Chicago Combustion Company. During those early years, Louis focused on building gas burners for commercial and industrial applications. The most famous of those burners was the ARGIL. Soon he found that his burners were being adopted for commercial cooking. After moving to New York, Louis incorporated new ideas and improved on his burner by building our first successful gas-fired broiler called the BROILBURGER.

The 1939 World's Fair in New York City marked the start of the gas-fired barbecue business known today as LazyMan. The BROILBURGER was the centerpiece of our booth at the fair and later sold to restaurants that wanted the flavor of charcoal cooking but with the ease of gas. BROILBURGER pioneered many unique features for the day such as sealed burners, automatic rotating forks, and a precursor to ceramic fire bricks and gas ignited charcoal briquets. They were quickly adopted by luncheonettes, sandwich shops and other restaurants. While these first units were fired by Henry Ford's Ford Charcoal Briquets, they later were adapted for full gas operation, replacing the briquets with lava rocks. In the 1940's, with the combination of the ARGIL burner, a high quality utility stove was introduced. This evolution started us down the path to the barbecue business.

Until the mid-1950's, the gas grill business was almost exclusively found in commercial cooking. The first ever portable gas grills were sold in 1954 by Chicago Combustion Corporation. Shortly after, two other companies, Charmglo and Falcon, released competing portable grills. Based on the premise of the successful gas fired BROILBURGER, these portable gas fired barbecues featured state of the art burners. The burners were built from the lineage of burner technology that formed the basis of the Chicago Combustion Company.Other early design ideas included porcelain on steel fire boxes, electric rotisseries, and lava rocks to emulate the charcoal flavor. Don McGlaughlin, Louis' son needed a source of fuel for their new portable grill. The iconic propane bottle that we now associate with the grilling today was actually sourced from the 20-lb propane cylinders used by plumbers. In 1959 you could purchase our portable Model AP for $131.25.

Chicago Combusion saw the first huge growth nationally for the residential gas grill in 1959. In 1960, the company started to wholesale permanent natural gas grills to the New Jersey Natural Gas Company. For $1 a month added to your gas bill for 39 months, the company installed the grill for you. To this day, LazyMan still offers propane or natural gas in the same basic design which can be purchased in either portable or permanent versions.

Over the next 30 years, Chicago Combustion continued to develop new models such as the Masterpiece Series which is a more traditional gas grill. We slowly exited the mass retail business in favor of selling handcrafted gourmet grills by our network of distributors who offer high touch sales, service and support. With this evolution, we decided it was time to rebrand the company and became LazyMan. LazyMan comes from our earliest grill line whose name was inspired by how much easier gas grilling was compared the charcoal of the time.

What sets LazyMan apart from other companies is our attention to quality and durability. Our parts are made from the absolute highest quality materials. All of our stainless steel burners, fireboxes, grates, hoods, shelves, and drip pans are made in our factory in Belvidere, New Jersey. The handmade quality craftsmanship is apparent from the first day you receive your product to every time you use your grill for the next 40 years. We are extremely proud to say that we stand behind every single grill we have ever made. To this day, more than 80 years since we were founded, we sell replacement parts for every product we have ever made.
